about

Scare Tape’s debut release Demo '19 opens up with chugging guitars pummeling your eardrums right from the start, with Zorian Misner and Tyler Bunnell delivering vocals of agony to the colossal track that is “Infant Snatcher.” Guitarist Tyler Bunnell takes full vocal duties on “Powerdrill Massacre,” which is a short but menacing track of thrashing guitars that should not be taken lightly. “Skincrawler” is nothing but aggression with Misner going into almost a feral state within the track. “Knife Fight (In The Parking Lot)” dives into the punk territory with criticism against the crackheads and “white trash” of the band’s hometown, while briefly settling down with a tongue-in-cheek, country-esque bridge before bursting into the final chorus led by gang vocals of the whole band, as well as friends. Bassist Jarrett Lowther makes an appearance on the EP’s dynamic closer “Shame”, providing vocals of self-doubt in the verses as Tyler’s mournful EBOW creates an unsettling ambience to set the mood, only for that to be interrupted by angsty vocals in the chorus complimented by Matt O’Donnell’s souring guitar leads that carry on throughout the rest of the track.

When Scare Tape began, they were unsure of the creative compatibility, as everyone came from different backgrounds in music. The POC EP only proves that the band’s opposing influences can find a middle ground to create something special that lets Scare Tape stand out amongst artists in the local scene.
